What do I need on the final?

You need 87.33% on the final to reach 85% overall.

Weights don't need to total 100 — the current grade uses the weights entered so far. Calculated locally in your browser.

Weighted grade calculator for any course

This grade calculator handles the two questions every student asks: what's my grade right now, and what do I need on the final? Add each assessment with its score and syllabus weight, and the weighted average appears live. Then set a target grade and the final exam's weight to see exactly the score you need — including the honest news when a target is out of reach.

Why weighted averages trip people up

A 95 on homework worth 10% moves your grade far less than an 80 on a midterm worth 35% — simple averaging of scores gets this badly wrong. The calculator multiplies each score by its weight before averaging, the same way your instructor's gradebook does, and it works mid-semester even when the weights entered so far don't total 100%.

Plan your finals week

Knowing you need a 72 — not a vague “do well” — changes how you allocate study time across courses. Run each class through the tool and put the hours where the required score is highest. For semester-level math, the GPA calculator converts course grades into a credit-weighted GPA, and the percentage calculator handles quick score conversions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a weighted grade calculated?

Multiply each score by its weight, add them up, and divide by the total weight. If homework (20%) is 92 and the midterm (30%) is 78, the weighted grade so far is (92×20 + 78×30) ÷ 50 = 83.6%.

How do I find what I need on the final exam?

Needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final's weight as a decimal. The tool computes it for you and warns when the target needs more than 100% — i.e., it isn't reachable.

Do my weights have to add up to 100%?

No. The current-grade figure uses only the weights you've entered, which is exactly how a grade 'so far' works mid-semester. The final-exam section then treats the remaining weight correctly.

Can I use points instead of percentages?

Convert each assignment to a percentage first (points earned ÷ points possible × 100), then enter those. The weighting math is identical afterwards.

What if the calculator says I need more than 100%?

It means the target grade is mathematically out of reach with the final's weight — every remaining point can't close the gap. Aim for the best reachable grade instead, or check if extra credit is available.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser and disappears when you leave.
