Free online XML sitemap generator
This XML sitemap generator turns a plain list of URLs into a valid sitemap.xmlthat follows the sitemaps.org protocol. A sitemap helps search engines find all your important pages quickly — especially useful for new sites, large sites, or pages that aren't well linked internally.
What goes in a sitemap entry
Each URL can carry three optional hints: lastmod (when the page last changed), changefreq (how often it updates) and priority (its relative importance, 0.0–1.0). Of these, an accurate lastmodis the most valuable — the others are treated as loose hints by Google. All URLs are XML-escaped so ampersands and query strings don't break the file.
After you generate it
Upload the file to your site root, reference it from your robots.txt with a Sitemap: line, and submit the URL in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Then keep it current as you add pages. Everything here runs in your browser, so your URL list stays private.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an XML sitemap?
An XML sitemap is a file listing your site's important URLs, so search engines can discover and crawl them efficiently. Each entry can include when it was last modified, how often it changes, and its relative priority.
How do I create a sitemap.xml?
Paste your page URLs, one per line, and this tool wraps them in valid sitemap XML with optional lastmod, changefreq and priority. Then copy the output or download sitemap.xml and upload it to your site root.
Do changefreq and priority actually matter?
Only mildly. Google treats them as hints and largely relies on its own signals. lastmod is the most useful field when it's accurate. Don't obsess over priority — set sensible values and move on.
Where do I submit my sitemap?
Upload it to your site root (e.g. /sitemap.xml), add a 'Sitemap:' line to your robots.txt, and submit the URL in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
How many URLs can a sitemap hold?
A single sitemap can hold up to 50,000 URLs and must be under 50 MB uncompressed. Larger sites split into multiple sitemaps referenced by a sitemap index file.
Is my URL list uploaded?
No. The sitemap is generated in your browser, so your URLs are never sent anywhere and the tool works offline.
