Free online date difference calculator
This date difference calculator counts the exact time between two dates — in total days, in weeks, and as a clean years, months and days breakdown. It also counts weekdays only, so you can estimate working days.
Common uses
- Days until a deadline, event, holiday or due date.
- How long ago something happened.
- Length of a trip, project, contract or notice period.
- Counting working days between two dates.
Inclusive vs exclusive counting
A plain difference between two dates excludes the final day, which is what you usually want for “days between”. For durations where both the first and last day count — like a 5-night hotel stay or a multi-day event — tick the include-end-day option. Because the calculator runs entirely in your browser, the dates you enter stay private and it works offline.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I count the days between two dates?
Enter a start date and an end date and the calculator subtracts them to show the total number of days, plus a breakdown in years, months and days.
Does it include both the start and end date?
By default the count is exclusive of the end day (a normal difference). Tick “Include the end day” to count both endpoints, which is useful for durations like hotel stays or event lengths.
What are weekdays in the result?
Weekdays counts only Monday to Friday between the two dates, excluding Saturdays and Sundays — handy for estimating business or working days.
Can I calculate a difference across leap years?
Yes. The tool uses real calendar dates, so leap years and varying month lengths are handled automatically for an accurate day count.
What if the end date is before the start date?
The calculator still shows the size of the gap. It compares the two dates and reports the absolute number of days between them.
Is my data kept private?
Yes. Everything is computed in your browser and nothing is uploaded, so the dates you enter never leave your device.
