Optimize a PDF for fast web viewing

This tool linearizes a PDF (also called 'Fast Web View') so browsers can start displaying the first page before the whole file has downloaded. It restructures the file with qpdf on our server without changing its content.

When to use it

  • Speed up a large PDF you host on your website.
  • Improve the experience of opening a PDF over a slow connection.
  • Prepare a PDF for embedding in a web page.

Private & secure

Your PDF is restructured for fast web viewing with qpdf on our server. The upload is encrypted, the work runs in a disposable workspace, and both files are wiped the instant the optimised PDF is returned.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does linearizing actually do?

It reorganises the PDF's internal structure so a viewer can render page one while the rest streams in, instead of waiting for the entire download.

Does it change how my PDF looks?

No. The content is untouched — only the internal byte order is optimised for streaming.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Yes. Linearising a PDF so it streams page-by-page is done with qpdf on the server, so the file is uploaded briefly. It is isolated for that request and deleted as soon as the optimised file is sent.

Is it free? Is there a watermark or size limit?

Completely free, no account, and no watermark. PDFs up to 100 MB each are accepted.
