Do browsers support AVIF?
Yes — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari and other current browsers support AVIF. For very old browsers, keep a JPG or PNG fallback.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
Yes. AV1 encoding is CPU-intensive and runs far better server-side than in a browser, so the image is uploaded briefly. It is processed in an isolated workspace and removed as soon as the AVIF is returned.
Is it free? Is there a watermark or size limit?
Yes — free to use, no sign-up, and no watermark on the AVIF. Images up to 100 MB each are accepted.
