Extract text from an image with OCR

This free online OCR tool reads the text inside an image and gives it back to you as editable text. Upload a screenshot, scan or photo and the Tesseract OCR engine on our server recognises the words. You get a downloadable text file to copy and reuse.

When to use it

  • Copy text from a screenshot or photo you can't select.
  • Digitise a scanned document or receipt.
  • Pull a quote or address out of an image.

Private & secure

Your file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection, converted on our server and streamed straight back to your device. Each request runs in its own isolated workspace that is deleted the instant the result is returned, so nothing is ever stored or shared.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which languages are supported?

English works out of the box. Enter a language code such as eng, or combine languages like eng+ben, provided that language pack is installed on the server.

How accurate is the OCR?

Accuracy is best on clear, high-contrast, straight images. Blurry, skewed or low-resolution photos reduce accuracy.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Yes. Unlike our browser-based tools, the Image to Text (OCR) runs on our secure server because it needs professional desktop-grade software to do the job well. Your file is processed in an isolated workspace and deleted automatically the moment the result is sent back — nothing is stored, logged or shared.

Is it free? Is there a watermark or size limit?

It is completely free with no sign-up and no watermark. Files up to 100 MB are supported per conversion.
