What each field means
- Pages — exactly what a viewer would show; useful for print orders.
- Page sizes — recognises A4, US Letter, US Legal, A3 and A5; other sizes are shown in millimetres.
- Producer / Creator — the software that generated the PDF. Often reveals whether a document was scanned, exported from Word or generated by a tax portal.
- Author, Title, Subject, Keywords — fields the author filled in when saving the file.
- Created / Modified — timestamps embedded in the PDF; not always accurate but often revealing.

How do I count pages in a PDF?

Is my file uploaded?
No. The PDF is inspected in your browser using pdf.js — nothing is sent to a server, so this is safe for confidential documents.
Why does the word count say 'no extractable text'?
The PDF is likely a scan — pages that are images of text rather than real text. Metadata still shows up but the words are locked inside images, which need OCR to read.
What is a PDF version?
The version of the PDF specification the file was made against (1.4, 1.7, 2.0, and so on). It is mostly useful for checking whether an older viewer will support the file.
Can it detect if a PDF is password protected?
Yes — password-protected PDFs cannot be opened without the password, so if you upload one the tool tells you it is protected and asks for it to be removed first.
